Paul Weagraff Named Director of DDOA
Paul Weagraff has been appointed Director of the Delaware Division of the Arts,
effective October 16, 2006. Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor made the
appointment, with the approval of Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Mr. Weagraff
replaces Laura Scanlan who has accepted the position of Sr. Vice President for
Development for the Delaware Community Foundation. Susan Salkin, the Community
Arts Development Coordinator, will take over as Deputy Director. Details…

The Delaware Artist Roster is now available online. To find Delaware's
visual, performing, and literary, and media artists visit http://artistroster.artsdel.org.
You can search by 18 different disciplines including Fiction, Murals, Music,
Sculpture and Theater. You will also be able to find artists interested in
exhibiting, performing or leading workshops. With samples of artwork and links
to the artists' websites, we invite all types of organizations and individuals
to use this resource.

Awards Granted to Seven Delaware Organizations by Mid Atlantic Arts
Foundation
Through the Delaware Performing Arts Presenters Initiative, the MAAF, in
partnership with DDOA awarded funds to the Christina Cultural Arts Center,
Coastal Concerts, Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, Delaware Division of Parks
& Recreation (Bellevue State Park), Lewes Public Library, and Smyrna Opera
House. This program promotes the presentation of a diverse mix of musicians,
dancers, and storytellers including Urban Bush Women, Zephyros Winds, The
Hillbilly Gypsies, and Beach Jazz. Details…

Mezzanine Gallery: An American Road Trip Diary
Carolyn Berl-Donald, Delaware Individual Artist Fellow in Painting, will be
exhibiting her paintings, photographs, and sculpture from her recent road trip
across the country. She invites the viewer to retrace that journey with her.

Poetry Out Loud Contest
DDOA presents Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, in partnership
with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. Schools in
each state are invited to participate in classroom and school-wide contests,
advancing to state competitions next March. State champions will advance to
the National Finals in late April 2007 in Washington, DC.
Poetry anthologies, a program guide to help instructors teach recitation
and performance, and an audio CD featuring well-known actors and writers such
as James Earl Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Alyssa Milano, and N. Scott Momaday are
available to participating schools. Program materials are available for
download on the new website, www.poetryoutloud.org,
which offers additional resources. Delaware registration materials are
available on the DDOA 'website www.artsdel.org/poetryoutloud.
The application deadline is November 1, 2006.

Delaware Book Festival
DDOA is pleased to be involved in the planning of the state's first annual
Delaware Book Festival on Saturday, November 4, from 10 am to 4 pm at the
First State Heritage Park at Dover. Sebastian Junger, Phillip Margolin,
Elizabeth George, and Steven Kellogg are among 35 authors and illustrators who
will be discussing and reading from their works. Panel discussions will take
visitors behind the scenes of editorial and art departments of publishing
houses. Workshops and interactive activities for children and adults are
