Interplay Sculpture Competition

The University of Maryland Public Art Project announces a national competition called Interplay. Interplay blends several objectives: to create a dynamic environment for public and social engagement, to serve as a contemplative place for individuals to experience contemporary art, and to embrace the scholarly spirit of a distinguished institution of higher education and research.

Requests for Qualifications are invited from experienced artists or artist/design teams, to develop a site-specific public artwork/s for the University of Maryland.

* The work will be part of the renovation of a courtyard in proximity to the university's visual art and humanities buildings. Three individual projects will be considered, or a design that negotiates the entire space as one concept.

* The total budget for the project is $450,000 including all fees and associated costs.

* Deadline for completion is February 2010 with a Dedication Ceremony in April 2010.

MetaFest 2008 - Juried Short-Film Festival

Metacafe, one of the worlds largest video entertainment sites with 30 million unique visitors per month, and Microcinema International, a leading international exhibitor and specialty markets distributor of the "moving image arts, are teaming to create and curate MetaFest 2008.

MetaFest 2008 is a juried short-film festival that combines the best of the on- and off-line worlds.

MetaFest accepts films 10 minutes or less in length - animated, narrative, humorous, artistic, dramatic, documentary, mockumentary, music, experimental, alternative or avant-garde in any genre, format or style. There are no entry fees and multiple submissions are encouraged.

The jury will select a grand prize winner who will be awarded $5,000 cash and a short-short award winner for outstanding work in a video of three minutes or less who will receive $2,000 cash. Two audience-choice award winners, one selected at the theatrical premiere and one selected by Metacafe viewers, will receive $1,000 each as well as DVD selections worth $250 from the Microcinema DVD catalog. All award winners will be prominently featured on the Metacafe home page for 10 days and receive additional exposure through marketing and publicity efforts.

Selected films will have a theatrical premiere in San Francisco in November 2008, will be showcased on Metacafe.com for six months, and be screened at dozens of microcinema events across the U.S. and around the world through the first half of 2009.

Delaware Art Museum & Christina Cultural Arts Center Launch the "Eye/I Witness Gordon Parks Arts Competition"

The Delaware Art Museum and the Christina Cultural Arts Center have partnered to launch the "Eye/I Witness Gordon Parks Arts Competition" in celebration of the many artistic mediums employed by Gordon Parks (1912 – 2006) to critical acclaim. This competition is being held in conjunction with the exhibition Bare Witness: Photographs by Gordon Parks, on view at the Delaware Art Museum, October 11, 2008 – January 4, 2009.

The three categories of the "Eye/I Witness Competition" are Photography, Poetry, and Film. Submissions should reflect the significant themes found in the works of Gordon Parks, and must be received between September 1 and September 26, 2008. The "Eye/I Witness Competition" is open to all interested participants, and no entry fee is required. Selected works will be recognized at an evening celebration at the Delaware Art Museum on Friday, November 7, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

2008 Regional Fine Arts Exhibition - Call For Entries

Eligibility: Artists must be age 18 or older and reside or work in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland or New Jersey. Artists do not have to be CCArts members to participate.

Special Theme: In honor of the Smithsonian traveling exhibition "Between Fences", coming to CCArts January - March, 2009, which explores the cultural impact fences in American history, we are encouraging artists to submit artwork on the theme of real or metaphorical fences or barriers.
*This theme is suggested, not required for acceptance.

Entries: Artists may submit 1 to 3 entries in the following media categories: paintings, photography, sculpture, clay, jewelry, or works on paper (prints, handmade paper collage, mixed media, drawings or pastel). Artwork must have been created within the last 2 years. Identification tags with artist’s name, artwork title, media/year and price must be attached to the upper right hand corner of the back of the work or the bottom of sculpture. Entries must be original artwork, done without the aid of an instructor or with the use of photographs taken by anyone other than the artist. Works must be framed and ready to hang (some appropriate canvas paintings may be unframed). Works without proper hanging wire will not be accepted. Work previously exhibited at the Center for the Creative Arts is not eligible. Submitted sculpture and jewelry must have it’s own display/stand. Artwork with a "Fence" theme may be accompanied by a short artist statement.

Emerging Artists 2009 - Seventeenth Annual Awars Exhibition

SlowArt Productions presents Emerging Artists 2009, the seventeenth annual competition for group exhibition, and awards.

Open to all artists working in any media this event is devoted to the discovery, introduction and promotion of emerging artists. Click here for entry information and application.

Embracing Our Differences

Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its 6th annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity. National and international submissions are encouraged. 45 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the month of April 2009 at Island Park along Sarasota’s beautiful bayfront. The exhibit will also be displayed throughout the month of May 2009 in North Port, Florida. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 550,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. An additional six “honorable mention” selections will be made.

Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme "Embracing Our Differences." The art-work will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size – 16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines. Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals. A total of $3,000.00 in awards will be presented.

Deadline for submission is January 12th, 2009. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries.

The mission of Embracing Our Differences is to use art as a catalyst for creating awareness and promoting the value of diversity, the benefits of inclusion and the significance of the active rejection of hatred and prejudice.

National Endowment for the Arts to Manage Design Competition for Rosa Parks Statue in US Capitol

Arts Endowment partners with the Architect of the Capitol and the Joint Committee on the Library on historic sculpture commission for National Statuary Hall.

Chrysler Foundation supports design competition with $100,000 grant.

Washington, DC-March 11, 2008-The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) today announced a design competition, in partnership with the Joint Committee on the Library and the Office of the Architect of the Capitol, for a statue of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks. Commissioned by the U.S. Congress, the sculpture will be permanently installed in National Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol Building. The Rosa Parks statue represents the first commission of a full-sized statue authorized and funded by the U.S. Congress since the 1870s. The Chrysler Foundation has provided $100,000 to support the administration of the competition.

Directors needed for the Everett Theatre, shows in June and July

Looking for a director for a one week workshop June 20 to 31 "Black Box Theatre" Improv, for young teens to include basic improve games and simple skit or one act play. Show for families at the end.

Looking for a director for a two week July 20 to 31 "One Act Work Shop" for preteens and young teens. Actors will perform in one or more one act plays at the end of the two weeks. Show for families at the end.

Cleveland Public Art

Cleveland Public Art (CPA) is seeking artists’ portfolios to be considered for public art projects throughout Cleveland, OH. CPA is a twenty-year old, private, nonprofit organization dedicated the highest quality, site-specific public art and creative urban design. Recent projects include Brian Tolle’s Installation on Mall B, Allan & Ellen Wexler’s WindWorks project at the Great Lakes Science Center, Albert Paley’s gate at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, and various works throughout Cleveland’s neighborhoods. Call for Submissions: The Broadkill Review

In an interesting hybrid of print and electronic publication, The Broadkill Review, will publish six PDF issues per year. We will focus primarily upon the Delmarva Peninsula and the Mid-Atlantic as our target audience to start, and hope to publish many of the fine writers from this area; we expect both our audience and range of submissions to grow as the publication grows. 

To submit your work to The Broadkill Review, please send no more than five poems or one short story to: the_broadkill_review @earthlink.net. No simultaneous submissions, please. Submissions must be in MS Word format and sent as an attachment, or be contained within the text of your e-mail. No photos at this time, or fanciful renderings of your work. These make downloading your text difficult and time consuming.  Allow up to three months for response, as we hope to fill each issue with the highest quality material.
